0:00 Introduction: Why I'm making this video 2:30 Why this video? Responding to a local anti-Catholic Protestant friend 5:20 Detachment in apologetics 5:50 Predestination 7:10 Start of the topic: Catholic Tradition 10:00 Why practice apologetics and evangelization? 12:30 Teach and think with the Church; Vincentian Canon 14:30 Church vs sola scriptura and the Reformation 18:15 What do I need to KNOW, what do I need to DO, as a Christian? 19:45 How can I understand what I'm reading in the Scriptures, unless someone who KNOWS, teaches me? 21:00 Standing on the shoulders of giants 22:10 Interpreting the Bible in the context of 2000 years of ancient Christian belief and practice 23:25 When you listen to the interpretation of your pastor you aren't accepting the "Bible Alone", you are subscribing to some form of "tradition" 25:25 Catholic Tradition or Protestant Tradition, take your pick 25:45 Acts 8: 26-35 - Do you think you UNDERSTAND what you are READING? How CAN I unless a man SHOWS me? 26:50 1 Timothy 3: 15 - The CHURCH is the pillar and ground of the truth; the Church guards "the box of truth" for the world 28:40 Vatican 2 on the SOURCES vs SOURCE of Revelation: Oral and Witten Tradition 30:15 2 Thessalonians 2: 14 - The apostle Paul writes for us to hold to his traditions, by word (oral) or by epistle (written Scripture) 32:00 No New Testament Scripture for 20 years after Christ, so they didn't PRACTICE, let alone BELIEVE in Sola Scriptura 33:00 If all Bibles burned, the Church lives, Christianity survives 34:20 2 Timothy 4: 3-4 - How do you know for sure you have the right Christian teacher? An authentic authoritative teacher of doctrine 36:00 Who put the Bible together for you? What is their authority? 36:30 2 Peter 3: 16 - Paul's writings are hard to understand, don't learn from the unlearned or untaught 38:04 SUMMARY: the role of the Church and the Pope; Guardians of the Truth; keep the box of truth intact; promote true teachings; sola scriptura is an invention of the 16th century Protestant Reformation; other resources and debates; 3 Catholics vs 3 Protestants and they DIDN'T Agree with each other! ------------------ Laurence Gonzaga was raised "Catholic", fell away, and became an atheist in high school, returned to faith in college during an Intro to Philosophy course, was a practical Protestant for a short period, before returning home to Catholicism in 2003. He is a former diocesan catechist and amateur apologist for many years during the early days of Xanga and early years of Youtube. Hardly anyone did Youtube apologetics back then (mid-2000's), and now it's all the craze. Too old to keep up with the best in the biz, but every once in a while he makes videos like this as a hobby to teach and defend Catholic doctrine for those 6 people in his sphere of influence. :-) If you appreciate his videos, drop him a note of thanks.
